LW, as a new member, i would like to know your whole thoughts on using swear words in poetry that i post. not in an aggressive form or such, but just as words to help one grasp the whole meaning of my poem. if anyone else finds it offensive, please say so, because my goal is to share with you, not offend you. im not speaking of the “F” word, but the other words used for heck dang or crap, if you get my drift. thank you so much

I’ve never had any rule against swear words. In fact, I think the concept of “swear words” is actually kind of silly. “Oh my gawd, he uttered a sound that is somehow offensive! Gasp!” I believe in the power of words, I believe words can be powerful, inspiring, and even, of course, hurtful, but the idea that a word can hold such a terrible taboo in a general sense (“damn” for instance) just kind of boggles me. Some words, like racial slurs, or words that serve no purpose but to insult and be hurtful, I tend to agree should not be used. (And yet, there is exceptions to everything.)
So, as I’ve said on this site before, and which has been lost in the mists of time, you as the author has final say about what you put in your works. If you feel comfortable with it, comfortable with people reading it and judging it, then I doubt myself or anyone else, will say much against it.
